that is, a suburb of Dallas announces our Summer Fun Workshop. Starts
Tuesday June 12 and ends Tuesday July 17. We teach all day long on
Tuesdays only during this period. We have classes in Tap, Ballet,
Twirling, Jazz, Gymnastics, Cheerleading, Karate, Boys Sports Skills
(Fundamentals), Tots to Tumble & Rhythm for 18 mos. to 2 1/2, Ballroom
Swing for pre teens, teens and adults, Leaps & Turns and Baton Twirling

DTOL member Bruce Michelson will be giving weeklong workshops in ballet,
Cunningham technique and contemporary repertoire in beautiful Italy this
summer: IALS Rome (July 2-7), Marche Danza (July 9-13) and Acqui Terme
(July 16-22). Bruce is a former dancer with Netherlands Dance Theater
and Rambert Dance Co. and was balletmaster at Zurich Ballet and Ballet
Gulbenkian. He is now a guest teacher with distinguished companies and
schools across Europe and Cunningham teacher at the Hamlyn School in

Syllabus followed in the ISTD for Ballet and Modern Theatre Dance from
Primary until Advanced II in both subjects. Exam sessions are held twice
a year.
The school takes in children from 4 years of age progressing onto the
Primary class to commence the exam process. All students reach exam
standard but are reminded that the exams are not compulsory in order to
move to the next level.
Excellent staff teacher who wishes to remain with the school. Good
rapport with parents who are most supportive and helpful. Fees are paid
within the first two weeks of every term.
We also have an Adult Beginner Programme in Ballet and Jazz Dance.
There are 140 pupils, including the adult programme, in the school at
the moment. Most children attend 2 classes a week, one ballet one

NATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR YOUTH DANCE TAKES PLACE IN LIVERPOOL, UK
Youth Dance England’s National Conference, Connecting young people with
dance: the impact we make, will take place 19 - 20 April 2007 at
Liverpool Hope University. The Conference will bring together key
industry figures to discuss the latest news, innovations and
developments in youth dance. Key note speeches will be given by Tony
Hall, CEO of the Royal Opera House and John Holden, Head of Culture,
DEMOS.
Opening with a discussion on the ‘Bigger Picture’ for youth dance, the
conference will address the scope and opportunities for young people to
participate in dance. Presented by recognised and dynamic leaders in
Arts, Dance, Education and Sport the conference will debate government
initiatives and their impact on youth dance - including the Dance
Review, Nurturing Creativity and the Specialist Schools Network.
John Holden (Head of Culture - DEMOS) will lead discussions on the
purpose and benefit of impact studies, illustrated through the Ballet
Hoo project (Birmingham Royal Ballet and Youth at Risk), YDance's Dance
and Health schools initiative (Scotland) and the NRG project delivered
by Hampshire Dance and Laban.
Conference presentations will review the impact of new initiatives on
youth dance: Centres for Advanced Training for exceptionally talented
young dancers, the Royal Ballet School's access programmes and Jonzi D's
Hip Hop Surgery.
During the Conference delegates have the opportunity to choose from a
wide range of case studies, 'how to' and practical sessions to share
innovative practice in the areas of managing groups, partnership
working, project development and teaching & learning strategies to
assist young people in gaining more benefit from dance.
To celebrate the diversity and quality of youth dance there will be
screenings of dance films, presentations and a performance of live dance
performed by young people at the Unity Theatre.

The Conference is part of the National Youth Dance Festival which this
year focuses on the North West. The Festival also includes a six day
residential event for selected youth dance groups, taking place at
Manchester Metropolitan University, Alsager Campus, from 6 – 11 July

place through the week, which will culminate in a public performance at
The Lowry, Salford, on the 11 July. Alongside the national festival, a
Regional Festival programme will be led by Ludus Dance, including a
project to bring together North West schools and the youth dance groups
attending the festival, practitioner training to develop the youth dance
work force in the North West, and courses and events for leaders and
teachers.
