SELECTED GROUPS ARE ANNOUNCED FOR THE UK’s NATIONAL YOUTH DANCE FESTIVAL
2007
Twelve youth dance groups from around the country have now been selected
to take part in the National Youth Dance Festival 2007. The groups will
work and dance together at a six-day residential event at Manchester
Metropolitan University, (Alsager Campus), 6 – 11 July, with a special
programme of workshops led by a professional artistic team. The week
will culminate in a public performance at the Lowry, Salford, as the
climax of a special Day of Dance on Wednesday 11 July at 7pm.
The National Youth Dance Festival, organised by Youth Dance England,
takes place in a different region each year. From a record ninety eight
applications for this year’s festival in the North West, sixty three
youth dance groups were chosen to attend selection events held across
the English regions.
The final twelve groups selected are:
Arc Crew UK, Stockton-on-Tees
Berkshire Youth Dance Company, Reading
Cheshire Youth Dance Company, Cheshire
FuzzyLogic Dance Company, Eastleigh
Kettering County Youth Dance Company, Kettering
Momentum Youth Dance Company, Wakefield
Parasite Entertainment, Basingstoke
QED, Kirkby Lonsdale
Reflex Youth Dance Company, Birmingham
RJC Youth Dance, Leeds
Salford Lads Dance Company, Salford
W'ire Youth Dance Company, Worcestershire
The groups bring an eclectic range of styles from contemporary, jazz and
ballet to reggae, street dance, breakdance and hip hop. As well as
providing the opportunity to learn new techniques with professional
artists and perform in a high profile venue, the festival offers the
groups a platform to share experience and good practice with each other.
“The Youth Dance England Festival is a fantastic event, where you can
watch young people find drive, focus and raise their self esteem. To me
this is what teaching is all about - offering opportunity in a fun and
innovative environment" Zoie Golding, FuzzyLogic Dance Company
Alongside the national festival week, a regional activity programme will
be led by Lancashire’s Ludus Dance, to extend the reach of the festival
and to leave a lasting legacy for Youth Dance in the North West.
The regional programme will include:
Youth Dance Exchange, a project that will pair the twelve attending
groups with local schools
Practitioner Training to develop the youth dance work force in the North
West –
courses and events will introduce new areas of working practice and
skills for leaders and teachers.
The Reach Network residential, an event for the shortlisted North West
groups who aren’t included in the selected twelve.
The next generation of dancers takes the stage!
