Gemma Cooper (lush4485@hotmail.com)
from Scotland, UK is “enquiring as to what you should include in a CV
when applying for jobs as a dancer and should you have professional
headshots done to send with your CV?”
One of DTOL dance teacher members replied:
Sharon Pinsley (s_pinsley@hotmail.com)
from Israel:
“For a dancer's CV, you should list your education and training
background, including: SI's, scholarships, known teachers (if this
applies), what technique/s you trained in- number of years for each.
Emphasize your classical (pointe work, partnering) and modern work if
you're intent on getting into a professional company. Add more esoteric
areas like jazz, if you're going for musicals. List roles you've studied
and performed in.
If you have any professional experience, include this as well- where,
what and with whom.
Don't list your age, height, weight or race. There are laws against
discrimination on these accounts.
Do include recommendations and a few photos, both a portrait and good
studio shots of jumps, long-lined poses, something dramatic as well.
Happy hunting!”

Jon-Paul Mountford (jp.mountford@virgin.net)
from Penge, London, UK is “seeking a tap dancer to use in a picture. If
you check my website it becomes clear as to why:
www.jpmountford.com I have so
far shot three pictures using Ballet, Swing and Tango dancers, my next
picture will be Tap. I am after a male tap dancer to round the set off.
every dancer I’ve met so far has been at the younger end, I was thinking
in the 40 to 60 mark (even late 30's) for the last shot and as I’m based
in South London - Kent-ish area. That’s where I’d like to shoot the
dancer. Which brings me here; I was wondering if you know of a website
with a notice board or some other links? Someone may be able to put me
in touch with a local instructor, tutor or even a dance agency with some
willing talent. I should explain that there is no money involved in
making these pictures; I would of course give prints to whomever
volunteers. But I can offer little else, these picture are just for my
folio use and are not for any commercial gain. Without getting too
clichéd, Gene Kelly kind of tap (and pose) is the kind of thing I had in
mind, I’ve needed educating on every one of these dance pictures, so I
may get some descriptions wrong. But thanks for any help or direction
you can offer.”

Many DTOL members already use CDs from Guy Dearden’s “Music For Dancing
Class” range, which is stocked in the DTOL Shop.
Now Guy has added four new CDs to the Showtime Hits range.
Having difficulty finding music for your next recital or show? With the
Showtime Hits series of CDs you'll be stuck for choice! Each CD contains
fully orchestrated instrumental recordings of great show numbers, all
played in girl vocal keys (new CDs include a track in male singing key)
for singing and dancing. Ideal for that big opening number, popular song
and dance routine or show stopping finale.
Guy has played for dancing exams for nearly 20 years and is very well
known in the UK theatre dance scene. He has been a major supplier of
music to the dance industry since 1987. Guy’s music is used by the
Imperial Society of Dance Teachers (ISTD) and the National Association
of Teachers of Dance (NATD) for their Tap Grade Exams. Both these
Societies are recognised worldwide. Guy actually played for Jennifer
Ellison's tap exams before she became famous! He now provides a large
selection of top quality music CDs for teachers of the theatre dance
world wide and prides himself on being able to provide music that
teachers, children and students just love to dance to.
The four new CDs, Showtime Hits 10 through 13, are available from DTOL’s
Shop. Further details of these products, and others, can be seen from
