First of all, the DTOL Shop has a new range of CDs:
11 CDs by Paul A. Jackson, for choreography and class, particularly suitable
for dance in education including UK National Curriculum assessments.
Paul A. Jackson has been involved in performing, writing and arranging music
throughout his life. He was keyboard player and vocalist for a soul band
whilst writing and producing material for solo and ensemble projects. He
likes to work in different styles such as pop, electro, dance and ambient
with elements of jazz, world and classical styles. Paul began creating the
Dancesounds series of CDs in 2002.
Three sets, each of 4 CDs, have been added to the range. Each set provides a
20% discount on the price for the four CDs separately. Regular price GBP
45.00, including postage and packing, in the DTOL Shop, DTOL's Pre-Christmas

DTOL member Fiona Brown (pointe@artslink.co.za)
from South Africa responded to the recent item about 'tucking':
"I absolutely agree with Sharon on the "tucking" issue. I was taught that
way, about a hundred years ago, and I will NEVER get rid of the "derriere" I
developed as a result. I have a lordosis (arched middle back for the
un-initiated) and my teachers at the time simply assumed that I was sticking
my bottom out. When I hear someone say they "can't" tuck, I am pretty sure
that that is exactly what her problem is, and yes, Pilates is wonderful for
assisting in correcting that. Here in South Africa, one of our top
Ballerinas has a lordosis, but you would never know it, because she has
trained her body to correct it so beautifully. And she has a TINY rear end,
nothing there hardly. Makes me all green and nasty!
The other thing to be extra aware of, is the need for really strong abs and
laterals, because only they can support the back in the shape it should be,
and if it is a lordosis problem, then the illiopsoas (a ligament, or is it a
tendon, I forget, that runs from inside the pelvic bones to the centre of
the spine) will be short. You can almost always tell if it is, because the
dancer will have a tendency towards tightness in the front of the hip on
arabesques, but show better than average strength on the devant positions."
