NEWSLETTERS FOR MEMBERS

16th March 2008

*****************************************************
This week's newsletter is sponsored by Dance Teacher Web: Providing tips, tools and tactics to gain, train and retain better students!

*****************************************************
DTOL member Glenda Hill (theatreworks@btinternet.com) responded to last week's item about "twinning" dance schools:

"We are based in Runcorn, Cheshire, England. My school is called Glenda Hill Theatreworks and we have been open for almost 12 years now. We have around 250 students in the school aged 4 to about 21years (apart from the adult tappers). We offer classes in ISTD ballet, tap, modern and jazz as well as drama and singing classes. We performed Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dreamcoat in October last year at our local theatre "Brindley Arts Centre" and this year we will be performing there again with a dance performance. Our singing department will be in the recording studios later in the year to record our 3rd school cd and our drama department is in the early stages of preparing their performance.

I am more than sure that many of my students would love to write to students from another dance/theatre school especially from another country. I would be open to hear from anyone but think it would be very interesting for my students to write to another ISTD school. I think they would find it fascinating to discuss set work with someone in another country!"

DTOL member Lynn Connolly (two4kix8@aol.com) from Springfield, Massachusetts, USA emailed me:

"I teach Western dance meaning: Texas Two Step, Swing, partners dancing and line dancing.  I am sometimes asked to have some line dancers to put on a performance at the mall or at a nursing home or a fair.  I wish I could find some information as to how to create dance formations used in Tap or Jazz.  Can anyone out there help me?  It is really just social dancing with very little upper body movement and is repetitive as well.  Formations, upper body movement and props would make it much more visually appealing I think.  Thank you."

May Penfold (maynual@hotmail.com) from Hong Kong is "interested in teacher training for preschool teaching - do you offer teacher's classes in UK or elsewhere?"

*****
The following reader of DTOL's Mailing List is looking for summer camps/schools and can't find them on the site yet:

Edith Chi
Tuen Mun, Hong Kong

Now that we have started things going for publicising this year's summer camps/schools, I thought we'd include a section in the newsletters for members who want to teach at such events.

Carl Adams (carlpadams@yahoo.com) from London, UK is "looking for work as teacher in summer dance school/camp. Please keep me posted; it seems a lot of schools do not want male teachers here, very odd."

If you want summer camp/school work, email me (briefly!) and I'll include you in the next newsletter.

*****
A reminder that you can perform a number of DTOL membership functions online at www.dtol.ndirect.co.uk/memberlogin.asp

You can edit your DTOL listing, register your summer school/camp details and access the online newsletters and the DTOL Forum.

Changing your password is easy - log in with your existing password (above) and make the changes. Just make sure the new password is exactly 5 characters long and only alphanumeric.

THIS WEEK'S NEW DTOL MEMBERS

The reason for listing new members each week is to foster DTOL's community. I hope that, from time to time, you will find a DTOL member in your area, or who is teaching your specialism in another area, and you will want to make contact with them, to share experiences. That's what DTOL's all about! But the listing is also a "welcome" to the new members. Perhaps you can take a minute this week to email one of these members to welcome them to DTOL.

The second line in each case is what each member says about themselves.
