I'd like to remind members - particularly those of you who have recently
joined DTOL - of various services and products available through the DTOL
web site.
Silver Membership of DTOL is available at a very low annual cost and may
suit members with their own web sites. The main benefits are that a link to
your web site is included in your DTOL listing, and that listing has a
priority on your listings page.
Of highest priority on the listings pages, Gold Membership listings are
suited to those members who do not have their own web sites. DTOL will
create a web page for you, hosted on the DTOL site, and a link to this will
be included in your Gold Member listing.

Two excellent ballet books are available through the DTOL online Shop:
"Mime In Ballet" is a stunning and unique book - this is a 'must' for
teachers, dancers, students and ballet enthusiasts. 20 graduated studies in
Classical Gesture as used in Balletic Mime, culminating in a detailed
description of Carabosse and the Lilac Fairy from the Prologue of The
Sleeping Beauty.
"Ballet Through The Lens" photographically charts the work that Alan Foley
and Monica Loughman, together and apart, have devoted to raising the status
of classical ballet in Ireland.
*****
The DTOL Shop also includes an extensive range of class music CDs for
teachers:
"Music for the 21st Century Dancer": Dance Class Volume 1. 26 tracks for
ballet class - Barre, Centre and Allegro - plus a 15 minute track for
choreography. Composed and performed by Richard Kenwood-Herriott and
produced in association with Northern Ballet Theatre.
"Ballet Class in America": 3 CDs, including performance pieces, from Stephen
Barnes, accompanist for Pacific Northwest Ballet.
"Dance with Margot" Vols. 1 to 6: Margot Kazimirska was Principal Pianist
with the Frankfurt Ballet for 20 years, where she played for classes,
rehearsals and for many performances in Frankfurt and on world-wide tours.
She has also played as guest pianist for the Dutch National Ballet, English
National Ballet, the Royal Ballet and Scottish Ballet. She plays for all the
performances of William Forsythe's acclaimed ballet "Artifact Suite" for
Scottish Ballet and for the Paris Opera Ballet. Margot freelances as pianist
for many teachers in England, where she now lives. Her music for ballet
class series, "Dance with Margot" is very popular with teachers, students
and dancers.
GUY DEARDEN - Music For Dancing Class (41 CDs covering a wide range of dance
styles): Guy has played for dancing exams for nearly 20 years and is very
well known in the UK theatre dance scene. He has been a major supplier of
music to the dance industry since 1987. Guy's music is used by the Imperial
Society of Dance Teachers (ISTD) and the National Association of Teachers of
Dance (NATD) for their Tap Grade Exams. Both these Societies are recognised
worldwide. Guy actually played for Jennifer Ellison's tap exams before she
became famous! He now provides a large selection of top quality music CDs
for teachers of the theatre dance world wide and prides himself on being
able to provide music that teachers, children and students just love to
dance to.
KAREN MACIVER - Ballet Class for the Aspiring Professional (3 CDs): Karen
MacIver has played piano for Ballet Class with dance companies all over the
world and has written and arranged music for you to really enjoy taking free
class! My CD's are created especially for the aspiring professional dancer.
PAUL PAVEY - 3 CDs for contemporary and modern dance classes: For more than
twenty years Paul has worked with dance and theater, accompanying classes
and composing music all over the world. A multi-instrumentalist and
performer he has also given workshops to dancers (breathing and rhythm) and
musicians (approach to accompanying modern class) in many reputable schools
and companies.
RICHARD MADDOCK - "Ballet Studio Inspirations" and "As Creation Unfolds"
CDs: A native of Ontario, Canada, Richard Maddock has accompanied dancers
for over twenty years, and has worked as a dance class and exam accompanist
at numerous dance schools, including: Joyce Turley's School of Dance; The
Art of Dance; Dancespace; and The Randolph Academy. Richard currently holds
the position of Head Accompanist at The Pia Bouman School of Creative
Movement and Ballet, in Toronto, Canada.

SPONSOR'S SECTION
Thank you to the DTOL members who came to say hello at Move IT 2008 @
Olympia in early March. It was a pleasure to meet you all. Move It was quite
an event from an exhibitor's perspective but I wonder how visitors rated the
experience? If you attended on any of the days it would be interesting to
hear your viewpoint.
I was surprised by the number of overseas visitors. It was especially
pleasing to meet those teachers who have already introduced the Prima
syllabus in their schools and to learn how the programme is working for them
and their students. Meeting the teachers is definitely one of the privileges
of creating this teaching resource.
A frequent comment from student teachers/dancers in training who visited the
Lafour Prima Dance stand was how little training they have received (if any)
with regard to the teaching of young children (3-4yrs). Consequently many of
them purchased the new booklet 'Bubbles, Wings and Sparkly things' which is
a guide to teaching dance to young children. When establishing a new dance
school it is highly likely that the majority of pupils will be young
children so it seems odd that this is an area neglected in teacher training.
If the programme is not interesting or the delivery uncertain children
become distracted which can rapidly lead to an unsatisfactory experience for
child and teacher!
Interestingly since Move It and the Education show I been approached by
principals of Teacher Training colleges who have shown a particular interest
in teacher training being offered with the Lafour Prima Dance syllabus
The Education Show at the NEC in Birmingham at the end of February revealed
a similar picture. Many Early Years teachers recognise the benefits of an
early years dance experience for children in school. Again the teachers were
very much in favour of receiving training on the syllabus so that they could
deliver the Prima Dance programme with confidence.
For dance teachers who are new to teaching younger children or who would
welcome a fresh perspective a '1 to 1' workshop in conjunction with the
Lafour Prima Dance syllabus could be of great benefit. Many teachers prefer
this approach to attending 'group' workshops which can be a little exposing.
1 to 1 workshops ensure that your individual needs are met and will take
place on your own premises.
Competitive rates available with purchases of the syllabus.

THIS WEEK'S NEW DTOL MEMBERS
The reason for listing new members each week is to foster DTOL's community.
I hope that, from time to time, you will find a DTOL member in your area, or
who is teaching your specialism in another area, and you will want to make
contact with them, to share experiences. That's what DTOL's all about! But
the listing is also a "welcome" to the new members. Perhaps you can take a
minute this week to email one of these members to welcome them to DTOL.
The second line in each case is what each member says about themselves.
