Early Years
I started dancing at the age of two and in the early years of my life studied at 'Studios La Pointe' in England. By the time I was thirteen years of age I had experienced all kinds of dance including Ballet RAD, ISTD, IDTA , Tap , Modem and Disco. At thirteen years I was accepted into 'The Bush Davies Dance College', in East Sussex. I studied there, gaining my Intermediate Tap and Modern before returning back to Miss Reid after the college had become bankrupt.
The Royal Ballet School
I then decided to audition for The Royal Academy of Dancing and The Royal Ballet School Teachers' Training Course. After receiving places in both schools I accepted the place at The Royal Ballet School. During my three years at The RBS I studied Cecchetti grades to Associate, Russian style taught by Valerie Adams the Course Director, RAD taught by Hope Keelan and Denise Winmill.
Valerie Sunderland taught the Character for the RAD grades. Solos was taught by Rashna Homji, wife of Mr. Stephen Jefferies, Director of Hong Kong Ballet. Repertoire was taught by Julie Lincoln. Mime was taken by Pamela May and Character was taught by Madame Fay. National Dance was taken by Robert Harrold and Vivienne Saxton and Spanish Dance was taught by Madame Ricarda and Alison Hayward. Other aspects of dance during the three years also included Contemporary by Ross McKim and the study of Dalcroze. I also gained my A Level Dance and Child Development. I have worked in White Lodge with the first years and in the London and Leeds Junior Associates for two years.
Hong Kong
After graduation I then commenced work in Hong Kong at The Christine
Liao School, where
I worked in three centres, entering students for RAD exams and choreographing. My
last two
years have been with 'The Jean M. Wong School' where I am in charge of the Central studio
- one out of seven locations. I have three hundred students in my centre from four to
forty years old. I arranged many promotions and performances of my students in
advertisements, Les Miserables and The Nutcracker.
During my period in Hong Kong I have danced Les Patineurs by Frederick Ashton and Swan Lake, Cygnets. During August 1997 The Jean M. Wong School held an International summer school with students from all over the world and top class teachers from America, Scotland, Australia, Japan and many other places around the world. I had the part of organising the International teachers and timetables. In 1997, when China took over Hong Kong, we were invited to dance a 'goodbye' dance to Mr. Patten as he left Hong Kong so I rehearsed students and took students to the ceremony.
My Recent Work
I worked in the Jean M. Wong School of Ballet for nearly seven years and
in the year 1998 I
was appointed to Studio Coordinator of my studio in Central.
When the English National Ballet came and toured Asia, I was asked to help Mr. Craig
Randolph, teacher of the company and be Rehearsal Mistress of the children who were to
take part in the ENB Swan Lake. The children performed five shows in total and it
was a great experience.
