THE SALIGNAC FOUNDATION (France)
This was set up in the early part of 2000, to provide workshops and training courses in dance and video techniques.
During the summer months, guest tutors are invited to teach other styles, ranging from ballet, African contemporary jazz, improvisation techniques, and choreography.
The combined skills of myself and co-founder Barry Paton (director and cameraman) will lead to "Dance and The Camera" courses , for those interested in seeing how dance is filmed ,and want to make a dance video..
An organisation which is dedicated to advising and helping people, in realising their own ideas and creativity.
SEE THE WEBSITE FOR MORE DETAILS.

In 1980, I moved to London in order to widen my experience of contemporary dance techniques, and studied at many different dance schools, including The London School of Contemporary Dance , then joining the Islington Arts Factory, becoming the assistant director of their resident dance company. Through teaching and working there, meeting and doing classes with a number of choreographers and dancers, such as Janet Smith, Lloyd Newson, Siobhan Davies, Viola Farber and Richard Alston, this is where I developed my love of Cunningham technique. I returned to Scotland 6 years later, and taught extensively in dance schools , plus choreographing for Festivals.. forming eventually my own company Fiona Alderman and Dancers, creating new work for independent dance artists.. Following this, I received an Arts Council award to study in Paris with Ruth Barnes from The Cunningham Foundation School in New York. This made me experience the technique more fully and to see how best I could incorporate and modify it to my own style. I have also taken "time out" to go to college as a mature student, to gain my certificate in Childcare and Education, which allows me to work as a nursery nurse, with the pre –5’s in nurseries , creches and after school clubs. This has enabled me to develop dance and percussion workshops with pre school children, in various locations in Glasgow.and Edinburgh. Before moving last year to France, I was a regular teacher for The Dance House, Glasgow, teaching all ages and abilities, plus was a guest lecturer for The Scottish School Of Contemporary Dance in Dundee. In July, I have been invited to teach at the International summer school of Centro de Danca do Porto in Portugal. |
